Bristol University2 6 – BAC 3

This week saw us have a local away fixture against Bristol Uni at Coombe Dingle on a cold, wet, windy, soggy Saturday (I bet Dave wished she was there!) and we welcomed Lisa Browne to the first team. We had our team talk in the changing rooms before embracing the weather and fortunately we all had our new Club bobble hats to keep us warm. Although Sally probably wished she waited until we got outside to put hers on as she got a little too warm sat by the blazing radiator in the changing rooms!

Unfortunately we didn’t get the start we wanted and within the first 10 minutes we went 1-0 down as Bristol Uni converted a short corner. BAC were beginning to wake up but unfortunately Bish was mobbed in the D and we conceded a second to go 2-0 down. This was unfortunate as we had started to come into the game. That’s how the first half ended.

A gritty team talk by our captain Kingers seemed to give us the kick up the backside we needed and we started the second half with a lot more fight and determination. Good play down the right saw Lisa B pull her player wide, this allowed Bish to fire in a cross which was picked up by Tinny and with a reverse strike she found the back of the net, and reduced the deficit.

However, we didn’t get the rub of the green (back of the stick I hear you say?!) and the Uni scored again to restore their two goal advantage.

We continued to play decent hockey with good passages of play although at one point Bish was trying to pass but found Maroon 5 were in her way! The fight and spirit showed when Sally tackled the Bristol Uni defender on the edge of their D, slipped a pass to Tinny who slotted home to the Keeper’s right. Bristol Uni 3 BAC 2.

The belief was there that we could get something from the game but in doing so got caught on the break and conceded a fourth soon followed by a fifth and sixth.

We retained some pride when a short corner was beautifully converted by Tinny and she completed her hatrick via a straight strike from the top of the D.  Final result Bristol Uni 6 BAC 3.

It was back to Dingles café (in the clubhouse) for sandwiches and chips and yet again BAC were the last ones standing after our opposition had gone which shows that we win together and lose together. I’m sure our luck will change very soon as long as we believe in ourselves and our ability as a team.

MOTM:

Runaway winner was Tinny for her top quality hatrick, she was spending Saturday night learning how to knit. (bring on the jug)
