Westberries3 2 – BAC 5 (14/01/17)

Written By: Lisa ‘Kingers’ King

Our first league game of the new year saw us away to Westberries (WB) on a rather chilly January morning (just ask Sledger!)

Despite leaving plenty of time to get to the pitch, Brownie realised she had the wrong kit so rushed home to change…first fine of the day…tick! Quick team talk in the changing room and we made our way to pitch to warm up only for Dave to be caught short en route so she decided to try out the new changing rooms at CD. Will be very nice when all finished…..  the doors should be working properly by then and people will be able to leave the toilet independently of each other and not get locked out……yes, that’s fine no. 2….tick! Poor Dave 😉

So….to the game!

BAC started quickly (for once!) and wasted no time in putting pressure on the WB’s defence, really bright start which was rewarded with a well worked goal which saw Liz take the ball up the right wing and cross the ball into Lisa B who was patiently waiting and she slammed it home to put BAC 1-0 up!

BAC continued to press WB’s and there was some brilliant pockets of play, and excellent passing across the whole pitch and BAC quickly saw themselves 2-0 up. Some impressive dribbling from Tinny through the middle of the pitch and a neat little pass to Lisa B who again was in a great position to receive the ball and boom….goal no.2!! Great stuff Brownie.

WB’s continued to work BAC hard and this paid off when they scored a goal to make the score 2-1 ….come on BAC…..

With that, BAC dug in and stuck to their game, pushing up into the final third and putting on the pressure. Finally a short corner resulted in a superb strike from Tinny at the top of the D to send BAC 3-1 in the lead! Get in J But Tinny wasn’t finished yet, and after another short corner, this time a short ball out to Sal and across the D to Tinny who calmly lifted it in for a classy finish and BAC 4-1 up at half time.

Despite a half time team talk about making sure we keep the ball and no complacency, BAC started the second half rather sluggish and provided WB’s with a number of chances  to get back into the game. Despite conceding a goal, the BAC defence stayed strong and withstood a long period of early pressure but thankfully the score only remained 4-2. Sadly, Woolley twisted her knee and had to come off so BAC were down to 11. Luckily, despite Kingers and her opposing player managing to headbutt each other, BAC didn’t end up down to 10 and Kingers played on #hardasnails!!!!!!

BAC did eventually sort themselves out and despite a bit of a scrappy second half, kept pushing for more and eventually , after another great run through the middle of the pitch by Tinny and the whole WB’s team trying to tackle her (!), BAC were awarded another short corner and a right slip pass (great shout Lizzie!) to Tinny saw her smash the ball into the goal, making the final score 5-2 to BAC and a cracking 3 points for BAC in their first match of 2017!

MOM votes this week:

  1. Bish – for her superb play in midfield
  2. Liz/Tinny/Sledger/Browne
  3. Kingers

Nice one Bishop!!
