Match Report ~ BAC 3 – 4 Yate2 05/01/13

After all the fun and festivities of the Xmas and New Year period, BAC headed straight into a re-arranged league match against Yate 2 this week.

BAC started the game well with some early pressure and a number of short corners but unfortunately this didn’t result in any goals. With BAC playing high up the field, a break from Yate saw them win a short corner and a goal, 0-1. BAC pressure continued and despite a number of opportunities, BAC were caught on the break and a very quick Yate broke away and scored another, 0-2. Despite an unsurprising dressing down from the captain at half time, BAC started the second half not much better but after Trixie managed to take out one of their players (only temporarily!) with a ball in the ribs, the opportunity for a second half team talk saw BAC attempting to try and turn this game around.  Despite this, Yate scored again, 0-3…..and in the words of our club captain ‘what is going on’ !

However, in true BAC fighting spirit, we didn’t give up; we shrugged off those mince pies and turkey sandwiches and actually started to remember how to play hockey! A mammoth amount of drive and determination from the team saw an excellent display from Team BAC resulting in some lovely dribbling by Tinny at the top of the D and a short pass to Tapper who calmly fired the ball into the back of the goal…..at last 1-3. With BAC now piling on the pressure, a terrific strike from Tinny saw BAC go 2-3 and then within minutes some lovely passing though the midfield up to the forwards saw increasing pressure on the Yate defence and another great strike from Tinny, 3-3…..what a comeback!

With minutes left, and BAC thinking themselves lucky to be back in this game, Yate managed to break away for one last time and unfortunately, despite a brave, last ditch effort by Sally to clear the ball away from goal, BAC could not keep the ball from going over the line and found themselves 3-4 down at the final whistle. Unlucky ladies, but a terrific display of fighting spirit which hopefully we can take into next weeks game and continue for the rest of this season.

Man of the match this week went to Lor, Tinny and Liz with ‘Dick of the Day’ going to Katie who despite turning up the to the match, with new stick, new bag and new shoes (just like her first day back at school !!) was nominated by Sally for taking herself off the pitch and making Sally play at the back…..but we won’t go into all that now….

Quote of the day goes to the Yate umpire who at the end of the game, asked our captaincy duo, ‘was that last goal an own goal?’ …. Honestly, seriously not helping….
